Good stories well told inspire me. I’ve been a fan of The Good Weekend for years and am often inspired by the stories they tell. It’s amazing how much you can learn about someone and the highs and lows of their life in two thousand words.
Music inspires me. It opens my mind up like a tap and allows creativity to flow.
I’m inspired by being surrounded by my friends and family at this time of year. I love catching up over some drinks and a massive feed, getting together to celebrate the holiday season, seeing people you haven’t seen in a while and getting ready for what the new year may bring.
Any time that I am inclined to complain about my lot, I try to think of Gill Hicks, the London bomb blast survivor who, when declared all but dead, chose to live despite losing both legs, and who has lived life on full forward ever since. I am inspired by what is good, my children, my husband and family. And who isn’t inspired by the volunteers who are fighting the widespread bushfires, because that is what they do.
I’m inspired by small acts of kindness. The other day I was hobbling home from the bus stop (blisters from my new shoes!) when a total stranger pulled over and said, ‘you look like you could use a lift’. I didn’t accept the ride, but I was so touched by the kindness of this stranger. She really reminded me that it doesn’t take much to inject some goodness into the world.
