Nicole Thomas - We’ve been hearing (and saying) for a long time now that video is a critical part of your content strategy. But is video still where it’s at? Well, you do the maths:
- YouTube commands 1.5 billion logged-in viewers every month
- 82% of Twitter users watch video content on Twitter
- More video content is uploaded in 30 days than the major US television networks have created in 30 years.
So what’s next?
One word: Interactivity
Interactive content puts the audience at the heart of the experience.
Augmented reality (AR) software available on iPhone allows brands to create AR apps. SnapChat and Facebook are getting onboard with AR too. What it means for consumers is an interactive experience that can help push along purchasing decisions. Check out the IKEA Place app, where you can see how a sofa will look in your living room without leaving your home.
Projection mapping is another immersive technique that’s being pinged for 2018. What is it? In a nutshell, it’s projecting an image onto a three-dimensional surface. See how BMW used projection mapping to involve its audience.
360 viewing lets the viewer choose what perspective they want to watch the action from. It makes consumers part of the experience and gets them involved in the brand’s story. See how the Honda Civic was promoted at the 2016 Red Bull Global Rallycross.
Virtual reality (VR) is an immersive experience that transforms your surroundings entirely. Volvo made great use of the technology by creating an app that allowed users to test drive its XC90 SUV.
Did all of that just send you running for the hills? Here are some less technologically intense ways you can use video to engage with your audience and get your brand out there in 2018:
Trouble-shooting videos: Create a series of videos where you explain common FAQs. Some videos showing solutions to common user-generated problems with equipment or products might also be handy.
Build a relationship: Take the audience through a walk-through of your company. Let them know who you are, who your staff are and what you guys are about.
Video testimonials: Get satisfied customers talking about their experiences with your product.
