The super-efficient JCB JS200LC excavator is slashing fuel costs for contractors, with one demolition contractor in South Australia saying he’s cut fuel costs by up to $400 per week.Mr Dapy’s Demolition, run by Sean D’Apollonio, specialises in asbestos removal, strip outs, external and internal demolition. Sean started looking for a new excavator when his old machine was fire bombed by vandals. The fuel savings he has made since the unplanned upgrade have been significant.
“The JS200LC was more powerful and much better on fuel. I’m saving at least $200 a week and sometimes double that,” says Sean.
Sean uses the new machine on residential demolition sites that range between 400m2 and 6000m2 in size. His fuel savings are thanks to the excavator’s Dieselmax 448 engine, which delivers fuel savings of up to 20% when compared with other models. JCB’s Auto-Idle technology also boosts fuel efficiency by automatically reducing the engine speed when hydraulics are not in use. The excavator’s optimised hydraulic pump settings, advanced spool design and electronic management software all contribute to fuel savings.
The new JCB JS200LC also contains top-of-class componentry including Berco running gear, Kawasaki pumps and Kayaba valve blocks, on top of enduring structural strength.
“It copes very well under stress, especially when I’m pulling out oversized foundation then loading them onto semi-trailers. It makes short work of it,” Sean says.
Sean also notes the improved noise levels and visibility of this model over his old excavator. Viscous rubber mounts help reduce noise and vibration within the cab achieving noise levels of just 72dB(A) inside and 103dB(A) outside of the cab. The model’s 70/30 front screen split gives excellent frontward visibility, while the low-level bonnet provides clear rearward visibility.
“Noise levels are a lot better inside the cab and I can see a lot better through the top glass and the side glass compared to the other machines. It is also more comfortable and I like the set-up of where all the buttons are,” Sean says.
Of all the features, Sean says that the super high flow hydraulics really impress him. JCB’s innovative hydraulic regeneration system allows oil to be recycled across the cylinders for faster cycle times and reduced fuel consumption. The Tool Select feature can also quickly set up auxiliary hydraulic circuits and match pressure and flow to the needs of any attachment.
And it’s not just Sean who’s impressed by his new excavator – his customers are, too.
“The whole machine is stronger, faster and better on fuel. I also have a lot of customers that say that it looks really good,” he says.
