When two of Komatsu’s newest mining machines were launching in Australia, we saw an opportunity to tee up an exclusive media opportunity to get them on prime-time TV.
On show was the WE1850-3 hybrid wheel loader and the GD955-7 motor grader, and we invited Mackay’s local TV news station, 7 News, down for the morning to get up close and personal with these mammoth machines, shoot footage and chat with the team about their debut in Mackay and what this equipment means for local mine sites.
We offered it to 7 News as an exclusive, with the opportunity to speak to not only product managers, but some young apprentices about their thoughts on the machines and the technology behind them.
Since the machines were sitting at the branch and not working on site, we worked with the news producer by supplying b-roll footage of the machines in action to really round out the story, which aired on their Friday night 6pm news bulletin.
The key to securing coverage was to hone in on the local angle – the fact that these machines were in Mackay first, and as an exclusive, 7 News were the first to see it.
