This month, we’re diving into the importance of sleep for our overall wellbeing. A good night’s rest can do wonders for both body and mind. Here’s how each of us is improving our sleep this month.

Sue – One of the best parts of being on holiday for the past six weeks was waking naturally – no alarm, just sunlight. With the sun rising early and setting late in Europe this time of year though, some mornings started earlier than expected but I got all the sleep I needed! Now back home, I’m adjusting to a new rhythm again.

Kendi – I’ve just backed a Kickstarter project promising to deliver earbuds with active noise cancelling and snore-masking sounds, while being tiny enough to actually sleep comfortably. They should arrive any day and I am feeling hopeful! Apart from that, my best tip is make sure the guest room bed is comfy.

Alex – This blog has prompted me to finally set up the do not disturb function on my phone for when I’m asleep. Gone are the days of my family and friends group chats going off at all hours of the night.

Shereen – For me this month, it’s all about winding down with a calming hot tea before bed. I’ve been enjoying blends called “Sweet Dreams” and “Deliciously Dreamy” each night to help relax my mind and body. It’s become a simple, soothing ritual that’s really helping improve my sleep quality.

Karen – I have been using block, or box breathing, to help with calming me into sleep. It can help regulate the peripheral nervous system by influencing the autonomic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing the effects of stress. Box breathing can help shift the balance from the sympathetic (fight-or-flight response), to the parasympathetic (rest-and-digest). Effective if the many things going around your head are keeping you awake!
