Hi! My name is Mandi Bui and I’m currently interning at Hardman Communications. I’m studying Communications, majoring in Public Relations, at Western Sydney University.

As a student eager to explore the world of communications, I was thrilled when the opportunity arose to intern at Hardman Communications. What made this experience special wasn’t just the work I got to do, but the people I learnt from and the culture I became a part of. During my internship, I’ve gained so much more than professional experience. I’ve developed a deeper understanding of the industry and of myself.

I’ve found my internship to be a truly unique opportunity where I was constantly learning through real-world experiences that no classroom could replicate. Hardman Communications has an inspiring culture of support and collaboration, and being immersed in it has helped me grow both personally and professionally.

Here are five eye-opening lessons I’ve learnt along the way:

  1. Curiosity drives growth: I’ve learnt that curiosity is one of the most powerful tools for growth. Asking questions, trying new things and being open to feedback have helped me build confidence and new skills. The team at Hardman Communications never made me feel like I had to know all the answers, they were always willing to guide and teach me.
  1. Every task matters: No task is too small. Whether I was researching, designing or taking meeting notes, every responsibility played a role in the bigger picture. Each task was a chance to learn something new and contribute to the team’s success.
  1. Feedback is part of the process: I’ve learnt to see feedback as an opportunity to improve and to approach it with a growth mindset. The team’s constructive advice has helped me feel more confident and capable with every project.
  1. Teamwork makes the dreamwork: The Hardman Communications team has one of the most supportive and collaborative environments I’ve ever experienced. Watching how everyone works together, sharing responsibilities, ideas and caring for one another has shown me what true teamwork looks like.
  1. Stepping out of your comfort zone is essential: The internship has encouraged me to push beyond my comfort zone, from learning new tools to participating in team meetings and assisting in client meetings. While I felt shy at first, those moments became the most rewarding. Growth often happens in discomfort, and I’m grateful for every opportunity that challenged me.

I want to thank Sue and the entire Hardman Communications team for making me feel so welcome and supported. From my very first week, I was surrounded by professionals who took the time to guide me through unfamiliar processes and encourage me to learn. Everyone’s openness and approachability inspired me to see a clearer picture of my future in the communications industry.

This experience has been memorable, and I will carry the lessons I have learnt here with me throughout my career.
