It was digital detox and mindfulness month — stepping away from screens and reconnecting with the world around us. From family time to fresh air, here’s how the HC team switched off and recharged.

Sue – Our fortnightly WIP meeting usually sees us glued to our laptops as we review client work and talk about forward plans and big new ideas. This month we took a stroll and walked and talked instead – not a laptop or mobile phone in sight and it was energising.

Kendi – I’m trying to be more purposeful about how and when I get online. I’ll still check social media, read online articles or watch videos but I am trying to be conscious of it and not fall down the social media rabbit hole. I’m also trying to break that terrible double-screen habit of watching something on TV and scrolling the internet on my phone at the same time.

Alex – I’ve been trying to reduce my average daily screen time each week this month – I started super high at the beginning of the month but have managed to drop off about an hour since then – which is a win in my book!

Shereen – This month’s digital detox was all about switching off and spending proper time together as a family. Instead of screen time, we dusted off the Uno cards and Monopoly board. Movie nights turned into late-night swims (finally warm enough for it!) and the kids even put on plays and dance shows to keep us entertained – plenty of laughs and memories made.

Karen – Doing anything active outside is my favourite way to detox from the insidious screens and the ever present mobile phone. Going to the local markets, talking to people, getting involved in kids’ sport or a spot of gardening are great ways to enjoy the real world. If it includes sunshine and you can leave the phone behind even better!
