We see thousands of messages every day. Ads, headlines, videos, emails, billboards, social posts. Most disappear into the background almost instantly. But every now and then, a piece of creative cuts through so well that it stays with you for years. We share our favourites.

Sue – For me it’s always the ads with a catchy tune. Decades later I still find myself singing “We’re Happy Little Vegemites” or “Oh What a Feeling” from Toyota. When people are still humming your campaign years later, you’ve nailed it.

Kendi – I probably can’t do justice to this in the retelling and we finally threw out the original after packing it and taking it with from house to house us for years, but about 20 years ago CommBank produced an incredible mailout promoting renovation loans. It was a flipbook (an actual physical one!) called ‘famous last words of renovators’. Each very funny quote was printed on a page that looked like ancient wallpaper. Two decades later we still say ‘if you can drive a car, you can drive a bobcat’.

Alex – It’s probably not my favourite campaign, but one of the most memorable for me is the Speeding. No One Thinks Big of You campaign — where passersby would wiggle their pinky finger at drivers speeding past. My friends and I used to do this all the time growing up so it definitely had an impact on us!!

Karen – for me the iconic Qantas ads featuring the Australian Boys and Girls Choirs singing Peter Allen’s “I Still Call Australia Home”, with breathtaking imagery from all over the world are unforgettable and to this day moving. Ads that are a pleasure to watch, tell a story and are emotional – what a feat!
