At Hardman Communications we often say that showing up matters. This month at the AMPC Innovation Showcase I saw firsthand how showing up in research, in partnerships and in people is shaping the future of the red meat processing industry.
As AMPC’s communications partner I was on the ground running media and social content. That role gives me a front row seat to innovation that is not just theoretical but tested and real. The showcase made it clear this is an industry walking the talk.
One of the things I admire about Australian agriculture is the co-investment model that underpins research and development in many commodity sectors. Industry players contribute funds alongside organisations like AMPC so the projects are shaped by real world needs from the outset. That shared skin in the game means research is tested in operating environments, not just labs, giving it a much higher chance of being adopted. It is a model that delivers faster practical outcomes and ensures adoption. That lesson translates well beyond agribusiness into any sector trying to innovate with impact.
The stories we helped share from the showcase showed how wide that impact can be:
- Technology for people – think exoskeletons that not only reduce the chance of repetitive strain injury but help those who are recovering to get back to strength and back to work.
- Food innovation with a human touch – Kokumi is turning beef offal into flavour enhancers that boost taste and nutrition. The potential in aged care is enormous and may help residents enjoy food again without extra salt or sugar. Kokumi peptides boost richness and depth, making food more enjoyable encouraging better nutrition and supporting healthier, more satisfying diets.
- People projects – from neurodiversity programs to a Pacific Islander wellbeing hub the showcase reminded us that culture, connection and mental health are as critical as tech when it comes to a sustainable workforce
For us the value lies not only in being part of these conversations but in making sure they are heard more widely across industry in the media and with the public. That is the power of strong communications. It turns complex projects into stories that inspire.
And that is the takeaway for any business in any industry. Innovation is not just about ideas. It is about partnerships, relevance and impact. When you invest together tell the story well and focus on both people and technology progress follows.
