Charlotte Drake-Brockman is 84 years old, but don’t let that fool you into thinking she’s slowing down.
I had the good fortune of speaking to Charlotte last month as part of Regional Voices’ series of programs on ageing.
We call the series Older and Bolder, because there are plenty of people in regional Australia who are proving that getting a few years on the clock doesn’t mean stepping back.
In fact, the artist who painted Charlotte for the Archibald’s (and went on to become a finalist) describes her as “a woman who is strong, unconventional, flamboyant and still formidable”.
I had a great chat with Charlotte about some of her escapades, including the completely unsanctioned erection of artwork at her town’s entrance, under the cover of night. We also talked about the creative freedom of ageing and a whole lot of other things.
Listen to this great interview and be reminded of the value of older Australians and their contributions to our communities. Kendi Burness-Cowan
